National Mathematics Day - 2022

Celebration in the Department

Srinivasa Ramanujan is undoubtedly one of the greatest mathematicians India has ever produced. Born on December 22nd, 1887, Ramanujan was almost a self taught mathematician in the earlier days of his life until he developed connections with the Birtish mathematician G. H. Hardy. Ramanujan's theory of modular equations, mock theta functions, Eisenstein series identities reveal how original his thoughts were. In his honour, to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Ramanujan, National Mathematics day was introduced in 2012 by the then Prime Minitser of India Dr. Manmohan Singh. Since then, December 22nd is celebrated as the National Mathematics Day in India. The department of mathematics of Sarada Vilas College celebrated the National Mathematics Day, 22nd December, 2022 by paying floral tribute to the portrait Srinivasa Ramanujan. On account of this day, a poster presentation event by students was organized. Students presented posters on various topics such as Srinivasa Ramanujan, math in nature, math in language, magic squares, fun puzzle, amazing facts in mathematics and some games in mathematics. Faculty of various streams and also students visited the department and went through the posters. Visitors praised the efforts of the students.
